Detailed packing checklist for moving to Canada | What to pack for Canada

For your personal item bag (small backpack, purse, or a briefcase)

  • Passport and other travel documents

  • All important documents and their photocopies as applicable (PR confirmation, visa, permits, birth certificate, school transcripts, proof of funds etc.)

  • Driver’s License or driving permit

  • Health Insurance documents

  • Cash

  • Charger/ Power bank

  • Laptop/ iPad

  • Empty bottle (fill after security check)


Pack the carry-on bag considering that there are chances of your checked-in luggage being misplaced. It might take a couple days to get them back so all you will have is your carry-on bag.


For the carry-on bag

·         Toiletries

  • Toothpaste and toothbrush

  • Body Wash or soap

  • Comb

  • Shampoo and Conditioner

  • Moisturizer or lotion

  • Perfumes and deodorants

  • Razors and shaving cream

  • Feminine hygiene products

  • Sunscreen

  • Lip Balm

  • Hairbrush or comb

  • Nail clippers or manicure set

  • Tissues or handkerchiefs

  • Contact Lenses

  • Compact mirror

·         Water Bottle

·         Sewing kit

·         Masks

·         Medical Kit (Keep Labels)

·         Hand towel and Full-sized towel

·         Comfort pillow/ Travel pillow

·         Light blanket or comforter set.

·         Extra clothes (A PJ set, two full outfits, undergarments)

·         Warm scarf, toque, gloves depending on the weather


For checked luggage (suitcase)

·         Clothes

  • Long sleeve and short sleeve T-shirts and Tops

  • Shirts

  • Shorts, Jeans, cargos

  • Skirts, pajamas

  • Workout clothes

  • Socks and undergarments

  • Business suit and ties

  • Traditional wear

  • Hoodies and crewnecks

  • Sweaters

  • Coats and Jackets

  • Raincoat, a must.

·         Shoes and accessories

  • Runners, sneakers, and formal shoes

  • A lot of socks

  • Shoelaces, shoe polish and insoles.

  • Caps, hats and scarves

  • Gloves

  • Belts

·         Utensils :You can get some from Dollarama for starters but if you need to bring them from home, here is a short list to consider.

  • Coffee Mug

  • Saucepan and a frying pan

  • 4-course dish set

  • Spoons and forks

  • Cutting board and a knife set

  • Stirring spoons

  • Rolling pin
